Pack your sunscreen and your sense of adventure—because we’re heading to Puerto Peñasco, a vibrant beach resort city in northwestern Sonora, Mexico. Nestled at the northern tip of the Gulf of California (aka the Sea of Cortez), this coastal gem is just 62 miles south of the Arizona border. Americans know it fondly as “Rocky Point”, and trust me, it’s every bit as exciting as it sounds. It usually takes 4.5 hours to get there from Phoenix, driving on safe highways.
But this trip isn’t just about the waves and tacos—it’s about building hope. 1Mission is more than a community development organization—it’s a movement. Instead of charity handouts, families in poverty earn their homes by serving their community. That means when you join us, you’re not swooping in as a “helper.” You’re rolling up your sleeves to work alongside local families, sharing laughs, sweat, and stories as you build something lasting together. Once you arrive at Basecamp in Puerto Peñasco, you’ll be set up in their cozy accommodations with delicious meals and clean water. 1MISSION’s basecamp is just north of the town of Puerto Peñasco, right along the main highway.
Accommodations include bunkhouses with heating and A/C, as well as RV hookups and lots of space for tents. They also have hot showers, a professional kitchen, a spacious dining area, and a swimming pool. Medical insurance and all the tools and materials you’ll need is included in the registration fee. No construction experiences? No problem! The house model is designed so anyone—kids, parents, grandparents—can pitch in. And don’t worry, the local crew is always nearby to guide and cheer you on.
Mark your calendars: March 18–21, 2025. Four days of sun, service, and unforgettable memories. Imagine this: hammer in one hand, taco in the other, ocean breeze in your hair. That’s Rocky Point. That’s mission work with heart. That’s your next adventure.
