Many wartime Veterans and their families are paying for home care or assisted living without realizing they may qualify for a tax-free VA benefit that can help ease those costs. To help veterans learn about this often-overlooked resource, we invite the community to a free educational presentation on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM in Fellowship Hall.
Presented by Henry C. GrosJean, Veteran Improved Pension Advocate, the program will explain the VA Improved Pension, formerly known as Aid & Attendance. This enhanced, tax-free monthly pension is available to many wartime Veterans and surviving spouses who need assistance with everyday personal care. The benefit can help cover the cost of in-home caregivers, home health services, assisted living, or nursing home care—providing financial relief while helping individuals maintain their quality of life.
Unfortunately, many eligible Veterans never apply because they simply don’t know the benefit exists. In fact, fewer than one-third of eligible Veterans take advantage of this valuable program. This presentation is designed to change that by helping attendees understand what the benefit is, who may qualify, and how to begin the application process.
The program is intended for Veterans, spouses of Veterans, surviving spouses, family members, caregivers, and anyone helping a Veteran navigate long-term care decisions. Whether you are already paying for care at home, exploring assisted living options, or simply planning ahead, you’ll gain practical information about resources that may significantly reduce out-of-pocket care expenses.
Attendees will learn about eligibility requirements, including wartime service qualifications, financial guidelines, and the types of care that may be covered. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance from an experienced advocate dedicated to helping Veterans and their families understand the benefits they have earned.
